Outpatient Veterinary Assistants
Our outpatient veterinary assistants are made up of both RVTs and trained veterinary assistants. The outpatient assistants are primarily responsible for admitting patients into exam rooms for their veterinary exams. This includes getting weights, temperatures and collecting important background information and vitals, so the veterinarian is fully prepared when he or she begins the exam. They also make up the majority of prescriptions and perform the in-house labwork (many of the in-house lab results are finished while you are still here, so the appropriate treatment can begin immediately). Our assistants are responsible for keeping our shelves of medications, food, supplements and pet products ordered and stocked. Our dedicated team is always available for technician appointments and phone consults (to help with pet behavior problems, questions regarding the medications dispensed to treat your pet, bereavement counseling, etc.).
What is a Veterinary Technician? Veterinary technicians offer much of the same care for pets that nurses offer for people. Credentialed technicians have graduated from a two or four year AVMA-accredited program with an associate's or bachelor's degree in veterinary technology.
Veterinary technology programs teach how to;
obtain and record patient case histories
collect specimens and perform laboratory procedures
provide specialized nursing care
prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery
assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
expose and develop radiographs
advise and educate animal owners
supervise and train practice personnel
perform dental cleanings

"Gretchen" A
very rare moment....Anita relaxing!
(with Jake, Gretchen, Lexi & Molly)
Anita Sly, a registered veterinary technician (RVT), joined our clinic in
February 1999. She works in our out-patient nursing area of the
clinic, keeping things running smoothly for the doctors and keeping
everyone on track. Most recently she has taken on the task of our on-line store inventory.
She enjoys antique collecting, landscaping,
animal husbandry, and camping during her free time. Her free time
is limited because she keeps very busy with her many dogs, cats,
birds, tortoise, fish, and various rescued and rehabilitated
homeless animals.

Summer Maizie
Good fortune was with us in September of 2007... when Summer Adamson came to Governor Animal Clinic. She was born and raised in San Diego, a true Southern California Girl. She has been a veterinary assistant since 2006, and graduated with an R.V.T. license in August 2009. After spending any time with Summer, it is quite obvious animals and caring for them is her passion. That is especially true of her very own "Allie" (cat), and her pride-n-joy "Maizie" (her itty bitty mini dachshund).
Summer lives with her two adorable children in Poway. Summer makes the long haul to University City (she shows dedication in so many aspects of her life, which is why we appreciate her so much!) to make it her priority to give your pets the best possible loving and quality care they deserve.
The best part of Summer's day is when she gets to spend quality time with her kids. Also high on her list of fun things to do is playing softball and basketball, playing with her pets, and visiting with friends.

Krista Blakeley
Krista graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in Zoology in 2005, after which she moved to San Diego. She began her career at Helen Woodward Animal Center where she managed Club Pet Boarding. She entered the veterinary field in 2007 at Veterinary Surgical Specialists, where she discovered her passion for medicine.
Pursuing her desire to gain general practice experience, Krista joined the Governor Animal Clinic team in February 2010. Krista thrives on helping clients achieve the highest level of health for their pets. Her focus is on perfecting her technical skills and continuing to expand her knowledge of veterinary medicine. In January 2011 she will begin her R.V.T. coursework and hopes to be a certified R.V.T. by fall 2011. We look forward to watching her cotinue to grow in the veterinary field!
Update; August 2011 Krista received her R.V.T. license!
Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her friends and her kitty, Puma. |

Denice Blue
It almost seemed too good to be true when Denice began her employment here at Governor Animal Clinic. Her enthusiasm, great disposition, positive energy and sweet personality were just what we were looking for! Growing up with, and having a deep-seated love for animals (not just for owning them, but a strong desire to care for them), She has quite an assortment; "Fina" the Yorkie, "Tiffany" the ragdoll, "Cupid" the lovebird and even a few chickens!!
Denice is one of the rare, born-and-raised in San Diego, Southern California girls. After high school, she became a certified riding instructor/horse trainer. Animals are definitely one of her passions, as she has nurtured a wide and varied assortment of creatures over the years; dogs, cats, horses, lizards, snakes, ducks and hamsters, to name a few.
Denice has worked at a few vet clinics before finding her home here with us at GAC. "It truly is a family to me"
Denice lives with her husband, Jeff and their family of pets. Her current passion is competing in triathlons and working towards pro status. We are so proud to share this energetic, intelligent employee with you and your pets! We hope you will come in and meet her, along with our very talented team of Outpatient assistants!

Emily Stoelton
Emily loves her job, and her dedication shows in everything she does......we are so lucky that she has joined our family! Emily was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, and moved here in June of 2010 after getting married. Her husband is stationed on board the U.S.S. Carl Vinson.
Emily worked at a pet store for 5 years, so making the
transition to veterinary assistant was a smooth and natural occurrence. She
worked at a veterinary clinic back home for 2 years prior to moving to San Diego. Emily has taken on many new tasks since training in our outpatient area, one of the bigger, very detailed tasks is heading up the monumental job of international health certificates. They must be 100% perfect when completed!
Their family consists of "Nosmo King" (spells 'no smoking')!, a beautiful Siberian Husky, "Charleigh", her wonderful mutt, "Mahala", their harlequin macaw, "Sushi" the cat, "Pocket" the tuxedo cat, and an umbrella cockatoo named "Lola".
Emily loves the beach, making jewelry, traveling to new destinations, and has discovered a new-found passion for writing. (she is also a very devoted Virginia Tech Hokies fan)!
We hope you will come in and meet Emily. You will know her by her sweet smile, attention to detail, cheerful personality and helpful, friendly attitude.
"I absolutely adore working with the best veterinary team on the west coast!"

GiGi Li
We needed someone special, and GiGi fit the bill perfectly! Setting up the Governor Animal Clinic online store was a huge undertaking, and GiGi stepped in as our inventory master. She takes care of the computer software program, monitoring our inventory numbers and expirations to make sure that everything in the clinic is fresh, up-to-date and well stocked. Having no veterinary backround makes her her own entity here, but that isn't a problem as her position requires someone who is task oriented, focused, unafraid of computer gadgets, plus, she fits in with everyone and is always willing to help, always looking for another project, and always smiling and upbeat!
Gigi
graduated from UCLA in 2008. She has a Cocker Spaniel/ Maltese named
Simba who she loves very much and spends a lot of time with. On sunny
days, you could probably find her at the beach, laying out catching the
rays. She is also slowly (but surely) becoming an epicurean, discovering
new restaurants and trying new and exotic foods. During her free time,
she loves to be in the company of great friends. Gigi enjoys watching
and attending football, basketball and baseball games. GO CHARGERS,
PADRES & BRUINS! |

Josh Yoo
The summer of 2011 Josh joined the GAC family and we wanted to lock the doors to ensure he'd never leave us! (we are still working on a plan.....)
Sharing the comfort of his warm, happy & helpful personality, his meticulous work habits, and his exceptional & impressive skills, he was an immediate hit with the entire staff.
In Josh's previous life, he held various roles
in the software industry in Chicago and Los Angeles that took him to
some exciting places including Hawaii, Taiwan and Japan. Growing up as
the son of a veterinarian in Ohio, Josh has always had dreams of
becoming a veterinarian and a deep passion for veterinary medicine.
Prior to joining Governor Animal Clinic, he was working at Crenshaw
Animal Hospital in Los Angeles and was honored to be invited to join the
GAC family. Josh also works with the Veterinary Imaging Center of San
Diego and is often working at other clinics in Los Angeles on the
weekends.
Josh really enjoys the family atmosphere of Governor
and working closely with the Veterinarians, outpatient, inpatient and
Reception teams. Josh was immediately drawn to GAC as he was quite impressed
with the quality of medicine practiced, high level of professionalism
and commitment to customer service at Governor.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys traveling, skiing, a little tennis, FOOD, and spending time with friends and family.
We hope you will come in soon to meet Josh, we know you will be as impressed as we are!

Shanen Langowski
Shanen joined GAC in September 2011 as part of the
Outpatient Team. We were searching
for an ace lab technician, and Shanen fit the bill!
She graduated high school in Arizona at the tender age of 16 and moved
to Hawaii where she volunteered at the Sea Life Park in the Reef department. She quickly worked
her way up to staff photographer, and then as a Marine Mammal training intern. This led to an exciting career as a marine mammal
trainer during her junior year of college at Hawaii Pacific University (full time school, part time work), where she
graduated with a B.S. in Marine Biology at 19 years of age!
Shanen met her fiancé during her time in Hawaii, which led
them to San Diego to be closer to his family.
In the summer of 2010 she was a Shamu associate trainer at Sea World (needless
to say, an experience she’ll never forget!), where she was also a diver
cleaning the tanks.
Her deep passion for learning, loving animals and interest in science
brought her to us, excited to expand her knowledge; to possess experience & understanding not
only of training animals, but also to care for them.
Shanen shares her life with “Spunky”, a 14 year old beloved
mutt (her baby), a year-old Russian desert tortoise named “Squirt”, and adopted
Betta fish, “Mickey”.
Shanen enjoys running, reading, cooking, surfing, swimming,
tennis, spending time with her fiance, Kevin, and their pets.
She’s not sure where the future will take her career-wise,
but Shanen says she’s hoping to stay at GAC for a WHILE! We hope you will get
the chance to meet Shanen during your next visit to Governor Animal Clinic!

Cory Hoffman (photo soon to come)
In October of 2011 we brought Cory on board, with her sweet, cheerful smile and helpful attitude. She fit right in! She is very thoughtful, gentle and has become a wonderful asset to our clinic. She truly enjoys working with the pets who come through our doors; she is a natural.
Cory is a full time student, working part time in our outpatient department, and is also a housekeeper and pet sitter. She is a rare San Diego native, born and raised!
Cory shares her life with Acacia, an 8 year old spayed female chihuahua mix, and Song, a 10 year old spayed female pit mix. Cory loves the beach, and spends her free time enjoying museums, art, science, and photography. One of her goals is to "aspire to be a person of greatness"
We hope that during one of your visits to GAC you will meet Cory and enjoy her as much as we do!
