Partners in Caring

There are many agencies in San Diego dedicated to improving the lives of homeless, abused, and abandoned animals. We are proud to be involved with several non-profit groups.

To find out more about these generous individuals, what they do and how you can help, the following websites are a great way to get started;

Here are their stories………

Labrador Rescuers was established to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home stray, abandoned or unwanted Labrador Retrievers into loving and caring homes that will provide our labs a place to lay their heads in dignity for the rest of their lives. We strive to provide all families with the education they need for responsible and enjoyable pet ownership.

Our Labs are our first priority. We take special care in matching our Labs with their new families. Most of our Labs have been fostered for a short time to help in getting to know their personalities, behaviors and any special needs. We take their needs and our families' needs into consideration when doing the adoptions.
Labrador Rescuers is a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. All of our proceeds and donations are used to rescue, re-home and rehabilitate Labrador Retrievers. Any donation made to Labrador Rescuers is tax deductible.

Save your old cell phones and used ink/laser cartridges--Any digital cell phone, working or not, and ink/laser cartridges that have only been used once (not refilled) can be turned into cash for Lab Rescuers.  You can bring the items to any of the LR fundraisers, adoption events, or mail them directly. It helps raise money for the labs and encourages recycling-a win-win situation!!
Most of our Labs come from the local shelters and come from owners who are no longer in a position to care for their pet. Some are Labs that have lost their owners who are unable to be located.

1-619-819-0234 or go to the website to see success stories and available Labs for adoption.

Also; if you are interested in fostering one of these lovable, needy dogs, please call the number above or go to the website to fill out an application.  Foster homes are a very important step in getting these homeless pets out of shelters and into the arms of a loving family.

 "Roxy"

Roxy is looking for new quarters…she is currently living in a home with other pets, too shy to be comfortable there. She needs a quiet place of her very own, indoors, where she can sit on a lap and have her very own happy space.
She is a four year old, spayed female tortoiseshell beauty. Although she is shy, she is friendly. Given the opportunity to be an only pet, we are pretty sure she will blossom and show herself to be a loving, happy, playful member of the family.

If you think you can give Roxy the tranquility she craves, please call us here at Governor Animal Clinic

 TIJUANA RIVER VALLEY ANIMAL RESCUE

The Tijuana River Valley Animal Rescue is an independent, small, grass roots animal rescue group that was founded in October, 2005, dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned dogs in the Tijuana River Valley on the U.S. side of the border, as well as rescuing and rehabilitating abused, neglected and problematic horses.

The TRVAR began when I moved my horses (all rescues), and boarded them in South Bay.  I discovered that the Tijuana River Valley, which in part consists of 2,500 acres known as the Tijuana Estuary, which is natural, protected and preserved wetland habitat, accessible and available only to pedestrians and equestrians, had unfortunately become a common place for people to dump and abandon dogs.

Between Jesse and myself, we have directly picked up over a dozen dogs from the street in the past year and a half.  The bonds of love and trust must be created or restored. The time we take with each dog gives us an in depth understanding of each dogs individual needs, requirements and personality and enables us to provide the perfect recommendations for their ultimate placement.

All of our dogs receive complete, comprehensive care from Dr. Kirk Feinberg at Governor Animal Clinic in San Diego.  Dr. Feinberg has exhibited the utmost patience in allowing the dogs whatever amount of time necessary for them to acclimate to their new surroundings, lying on the floor with them, offering them gentle encouragement in the form of kind words and little treats.  The environment in the exam room is always calm and tranquil, the handling always gentle, patient and loving.

The first experience these dogs have with people is always positive. All the dogs receive complete blood panels, screenings for other diseases, appropriate medications, vitamins, supplements, the highest quality diets, the required vaccines, (we always do blood titers before vaccinating), and all the individual love and attention they need to learn to love and trust, often for the first time in their lives.

Surprisingly, the dogs that had to be trapped have emerged incredibly sweet and affectionate, anxious to begin the healing process, both physically and emotionally.

Tijuana River Valley Animal Rescue is currently working to acquire our 501(c) 3 non profit status. TRVAR is working to expand our network of potential permanent homes as well as possible foster care. We hope to have our web site up and running within the next month.

I can not stress enough the incredible sweet nature all the dogs came to possess. All the dogs rescued have been exceedingly grateful, eager and willing to please, quick learners, wise, well mannered and LOVING. Dr. Feinberg, my friend Jesse, and myself work exceptionally hard to provide the atmosphere and conditions under which these dogs may flourish, and it has worked wonders!

Tijuana River Valley Animal Rescue thanks you for your interest and support. Please give my name and phone number to anyone who may be interested in adopting, fostering, or anyone who would like more information.

Sincerely,

Karen Groebli

ARRF
Animal Rescue Resource Foundation

ARRF is a fairly new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to assist the rescue community, educate the public, and support spay/neuter campaigns to help end the suffering of lost and/or abandoned pets.  Volunteer possibilities are endless---fund raising, fostering, working with our foster animals at adoption events, or providing computer tech support in a variety of ways.  Tell us what you would like to do, and we will find you the perfect volunteer spot!

You will find that a kiss and nuzzle from a grateful dog who just found its forever home is the kind of compensation that money just can't buy.  Give us a call and start making a difference in the lives of lost or abandoned animals.  They will love you for it!

The ARRF website is at http://www.arrf.cc/

Ruff, Ruff! — my name is Libby, and I'm looking for my forever home!
Libby is a small (11 lb.), tri colored little girl. She is spayed, hoursetrained, good with cats and is up to date with all her shots.  She is a very affectionate, low-key sweetheart.  Before her foster placement, she had a tough time of it, but now is finding that the world is a pretty wonderful place to be.  She needs a special someone who will love and help her to be more comfortable in the world.  In return, Libby has an awful lot of love to give. Libby will sit when told, and is housetrained and microchipped.  She would probably do best in an adult home, though she may be good with mature older children.  She prefers to be the only-dog, but seems to get along fairly well with most male dogs.

I could be just the girl you’ve been looking for!

If you think I’m the dog for you, please e-mail friedmanfurries@cox.net , and the wonderful folks at ARRF will decide if you and I are a match.

I hope to hear from you soon!

"Chica"-->

Below, meet "Chica" & "Coco"

There is never a shortage of wonderful dogs that need loving homes,  below are"Chica & Coco".

Remember to check the ARRF website for updated adoption events held in areas around San Diego.  www.arrf.cc

Chica & Coco

Chica's story...Chica is a small, 14 pound, tan/yellow/fawn colored Terrier/Italian Greyhound mix.  Clever and assertive, she enjoys exploring places and meeting people.  She is lively and affectionate and would enjoy a friendly dog boyfriend to play with.  Chica is house trained and knows "sit".  She is a spayed female, house trained, good with dogs and is up to date with all her shots.  Since she is somewhat defensive, she should not be placed with small or very active children.

Coco's story...Coco is a 2 year old chocolate brown male chihuahua, weighing in at about 7 pounds.

"People say I'm cute and fun.  In fact, they say I'm downright endearing!  I love people and dogs.  I had some difficulties earlier in my life, so I can sometimes be a little slow in warming up to people (especially men), but once I size them up, I love to play and be petted.  Now, I even love to sit on my foster dad's lap!  I can't wait for my walks, and will definitely let you know when someone's at the door or if something looks a little out of place".

Coco is neutered, house trained and current on all his shots.  He really enjoys being a lap dog and playtime with other dogs.  He seems to get along with most everyone, even cats.  Because of his size and temperament, he'd probably do better with mature children, 12 years and older.  He's crate trained, and though he may need some reinforcement when he is in his new forever home, is also house trained

A message from Coco: " I am looking for my forever home and someone to love me."

The Baja Animal Sanctuary

We have a "B.A.S. can" on our counter for collecting donations to help Sonny Benedict with the gigantic efforts of saving the hundreds of homeless dogs and cats in Mexico.  Thanks to you, we have collected hundreds of dollars over the years, of which 100% goes directly to the care and feeding of these sick, injured and homeless pets.  We also collect beds, blankets, towels, leashes & collars, medications, shampoos, and other items to help with the rescue process, then volunteers take them to the BAS "Storage Area" in downtown San Diego, where the donations are stored then picked up and transported to the Sanctuary.  Occasionally the employees of Governor Animal Clinic will get together and pack up our own vehicles with medications from our hospital & the donated items from you,  and then make a fun day of visiting the Baja Animal Sanctuary.

Another way to help Sonny care for these petsFor each purchase you make at Albertson’s or Sav-on Drugs you can donate 2% of your purchase to the sanctuary!  In order to participate, you need to present an Albertson’s Community Partner’s card at the time of purchase. To obtain a Community Partners card, go to the Baja Animal Sanctuary website, and right on the home page is the link to a short form (just your name & address), then simply click on the ~"Send My Card!!!"~ icon.........thats all you have to do!

Foster Parents Urgently Needed!!
It's The Pits
is a canine rescue that coordinates the fostering and adoption of dogs that haven't yet found their permanent home. We specialize in American Staffordshire Terriers ("Am Staffs") and American Pit Bull Terriers, but will do our best to help all breeds, often by referrals to other local rescues that specialize in that type of dog. You can find many of these on our links page. We are located in North County San Diego, as are many of the foster homes that we work with to give the animals a temporary and loving home before they are placed into permanent situations. We rescue dogs from various shelters, evaluate them, ensure they are healthy and match them with the appropriate family. We take pride in finding the correct dog for the families that contact us by matching the activity level of the dog to the family's needs and making sure that other pets in the family work well with the new addition to the pack. All of this is important in finding forever homes for our rescued pets. If you are looking for a special dog, or can help by serving as a temporary foster parent, please contact us. Would you like to make a donation to It's The Pits? We are a not-for-profit organization and have received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. You can donate via PayPal using any major credit card (no PayPal account required).

Shelter Pet Partners is a non-profit organization devoted to rescuing abandoned and unwanted pets from San Diego Department Animal Shelters. Our staff consists entirely of volunteers, and 100% of proceeds, after costs, go to provide for the animals in our care.

Our adoption program utilizes people like you to foster and care for pets in your home. This method enriches the lives of the pets we care for and helps us to provide happier, healthier pets for adoption.

The Rosebud Society, Inc. was founded to help save and place in permanent homes as many adoptable cats and kittens as possible. The majority of our cats and kittens are taken from the local shelters at their request. These are animals that would be euthanized were we not to take them. They are the ill, the injured, and those too tiny to survive in a shelter environment to an adoptable age. It is our goal to find permanent, loving homes for these cats and kittens with individuals committed to providing love and care for the life of the pet.  You may email us at adoptacat@therosebudsociety.com or you may phone 858-459-8357. Please allow 48 hours for a return phone call or email message.

Veterinarians for World Animal Health

Our very own Dr. Kathy Kaleka donates her time and skills to this wonderful group, traveling with other veterinarians, R.V.T.'s and veterinary assistants to foreign countries.  This non-profit organization not only spays, neuters, vaccinates and treats sick and injured animals, but also educates the owners on how to keep their pets in good health by using preventive measures.

The pictures at right were taken in October of 2004 during a trip to Mexico, when 188 dogs and cats were brought in to this church where the mobile clinic was held.  (Dr. Kaleka is the 5th in from the right~front row).  Owners use heavy chains, ropes of all types, string, and even potato sacks to bring their dogs (below is a "before" picture, showing two types of the leashes used), so it was very rewarding for the volunteers to experience the emotional,  heartfelt joy when Dr. Kaleka presented them with the collars and leashes that you have so generously donated over the past year.  We will continue to keep the donation box out in our lobby throughout the year, so if you have new or gently used leashes and collars that you would like to see put to very good use, you can drop them in the box anytime.

Thank you for your generous, loving hearts!
