The Benefits of Laser Surgery

To keep you informed of all that we have to offer you and your companion, we have some specific information regarding our laser (how it works and the benefits to you and your pet).  We hope you find it helpful, educational and interesting.  As always, if you have questions regarding any aspect of what we do here at GAC, please call anytime and we will be happy to assist you.

A few of the many benefits of using laser begin with less pain for your pet, reduced swelling, control of infection, minimal bleeding, refined scarring, less time under anesthetic and faster recovery so your pet is released from the hospital and often home with you in a much shorter time frame.

The CO2 laser is used primarily to create precise incisions without the instrument itself touching the tissues.  Small blood vessels are sealed off by the laser, resulting in decreased bleeding at the surgery site.  The laser seals nerve endings and lymphatic vessels, so there is less swelling and decreased pain sensation.  Its accuracy is unparalleled!  Its definition is so incredibly precise that an area less than one millimeter in diameter can be treated, while scarcely affecting the surrounding healthy tissue.  The surgeon is able to control the power of the laser to make it gentle enough to work on the surface of the eye.  The benefits to pets with certain types of cancer is less chance of cancer cells breaking off during surgery and spreading to other organs via the lymphatic system, because the laser cuts by vaporizing cells rather than pushing through cells.

Dr.'s  Schechter, Feinberg, Sorenson, Massey and Kaleka are certified in the use of the laser and specialized techniques through a course conducted by a board certified surgeon.  Our doctors are committed to improving the standards of surgical care and pain management.  Our technicians and veterinary assistants have been trained with in-hospital sessions and with hands on instruction.  Our support staff haas also been trained in laser technology advancements to help educate you.

With the obvious benefit to their patient's health and healing, our doctors have felt compelled to incorporate this new technology into their array of treatment options.  The laser's benefits cannot be underestimated!
